Baby Shower: Cupcake Booties

This is one of the most adorable baby shower cakes you could ever make. And all it takes is a couple extra cupcakes! When baking your cake, reserve enough batter to make 3 cupcakes. When the cupcakes are completely cool, take off the wrappers. For one bootie, take one cupcake, turn it on its side and trim the top flat. Then turn it upside down and trim a little off of one side. Then cut a little hole out of the bottom (which is facing up). This will be the heal and sock of the bootie. Take a second cupcake and cut it in half, top to bottom. These will be the toes of the booties. Attach the bottom of the half cupcake to the cut side of the upside down cupcake using icing. You now have one bootie!
It is easiest because of how crumbly cupcakes can be to first but a crumb coat of icing on (a thin layer to hold in the crumbs) and then stick the bootie in the freezer for about 5 minutes. This will harden the icing enough so you can handle the bootie and get it placed on your cake. Once on the cake, use tip number 16 to pipe little stars all over as filler then pipe a shell border around the bottom and top. Using tip 2, pipe little laces and a bow. You can even add a bead border and other decorations to make your booties look even fancier. No matter how you decorate them, cupcake booties are always a crowd pleaser!
